Before you write

“Verification tag not found yet.” The app embed is not active in your live theme. Open the app, click Activate tag, then click Save in the theme editor. Come back and click Check now. If you use more than one theme, the tag must be active in the published one.

“Waiting for your store to launch.” Your online store is password-protected, which means it is not launched yet. Bing cannot see a store behind the password page, and an unlaunched store should not be indexed, so the app waits. Remove the password when you launch (Online Store › Preferences) and click Check now; verification and submissions start from there.

“Preview mode: this is a development store.” Shopify development stores are permanently password-protected, so Bing can never verify or crawl them. On a development store the app runs everything for real (finding your pages, webhooks, the queue, the log) and simulates only the calls to Bing, so you can see the whole flow. Nothing reaches Bing. When the store launches on a paid plan, the app notices within a day (or the moment you click Check now) and switches to live on its own, starting the real Bing verification from scratch.

Pages show as submitted but Bing’s “pages in index” stays low. Submitting asks Bing to crawl; it does not force indexing. Look at the crawl figures in the app: if “crawled” is rising and “in index” is not, Bing is choosing not to index those pages (thin content, duplicates, noindex tags). If “crawled” is not rising either, wait a few days; Bing schedules crawls on its own timetable.

Nothing has happened yet and it has been a day. Normal. Bing usually crawls within one to three days of submission, sometimes longer for a brand-new store. The “What Bing is actually doing” section in the app updates daily with Bing’s own figures. If it is still empty after a week, email us.

A URL is missing. Only public URLs are submitted: active products published to the Online Store channel, published pages and articles, all collections and blogs. Drafts and unpublished items are skipped by design.

Bing quota reached. Bing allows 100 URLs per store per day (sometimes more for established sites). Anything over waits for the next day; nothing is lost.

What the app cannot do

  • Submit to Google. Google has no equivalent API for ordinary pages.
  • Guarantee indexing or rankings. Bing decides what it indexes.
  • Work for stores whose Online Store channel is disabled.

Removing the app

Uninstall from Shopify › Apps. Automatic submissions stop at once. To also remove your store from our Bing Webmaster Tools account, email us and we’ll do it within a business day.
