Setup takes about two minutes and one click in your theme editor. Nothing visible changes on your store.
1. Install
Install from the Shopify App Store. On install the app reads your store’s public domain and registers it as a site in Bing Webmaster Tools. This happens automatically; step 1 in the app shows Done straight away.
2. Activate the verification tag
Bing needs proof that the app is allowed to submit URLs for your store. That proof is a tiny invisible tag in your storefront’s <head>.
- In the app, click Activate tag. Your theme editor opens with the GEO Indexer verify tag app embed already switched on.
- Click Save (top right of the theme editor).
- Close the editor and return to the app.
If you use several themes, do this in the theme that is currently published.
3. Verified
The app checks your storefront every few minutes. When it sees the tag, it asks Bing to verify. Step 3 turns Done, and the first full submission of your store starts within a minute. You can also click Check now rather than waiting.
Password-protected store? Bing cannot see behind the password page. Remove the password under Online Store › Preferences, then click Check now.
Development store? Development stores cannot drop their password, so the app runs in preview mode there: every step works and the log fills, but the calls to Bing are simulated. A banner at the top says so. When the store launches on a paid plan the app switches to live automatically.
From then on
- Publish or edit a product or collection: submitted to Bing within a minute.
- Every day: the app lists every public page, collection, blog and article and submits anything new or changed.
- Submit all URLs now (top right) does the daily sweep on demand.
- Bing allows 100 URLs a day per store. Anything over waits for tomorrow.
Reading the dashboard
- Submitted today / quota — what went to Bing today and how much of the daily allowance is used.
- Waiting to send — queued URLs, usually because the quota is reached.
- Public URLs tracked — every URL the app knows about.
- What Bing is actually doing — Bing’s own numbers for your store: pages in the index, pages crawled in the last 7 days, successful fetches, errors. Refreshed daily. This is the figure that matters: submitting asks Bing to visit, and these numbers show whether it did.
Settings
- Submit products and collections when they change — the webhook trigger. On by default.
- Daily check of every public page — the sweep. On by default. Turn either off if you want manual control only.
Uninstalling
Uninstall from Shopify › Apps. Submissions stop immediately. The verification tag disappears with the app embed. See the privacy policy for what is kept and for how long.
